TRENTON Three weeks ago, Gov. Chris Christies inauguration was expected to be a celebration of his re-election victory and a launching pad for a second-term agenda that many of his supporters hoped might cement his status as a front-runner to become the Republican Partys 2016 presidential nominee.
A lot has changed this month, as Christies administration now finds itself on the defense from two major controversies threatening to overshadow his first-term accomplishments and possibly his political ambitions for the next four years.
Although the inaugural show will go on as planned beginning with a church service in Newark, followed by Christies swearing-in and inaugural address in Trenton and an evening celebration on Ellis Island at least one political watcher expects the scandal will force the governor to deliver a drastically different message than originally planned.
Three weeks ago, the speech that was probably written would have directed the nation to follow New Jerseys example of bipartisanship, said Brigid Harrison, a professor of political science at Montclair State University. I dont think he can go there now.

'could?'
Let's hope there are Plenty of cameras outside these events, especially the 'high-roller' event that isn't even in New Jersey, to record who shows up to support Nixon... I mean Christie.

(39,313 posts)The media will surely be there, but not to show the inauguration but to show the meltdown and tie it into whatever news or new whistleblower comes out tomorrow!

(12,977 posts)The totals for tomorrow's storm keep being upped, and the latest forecasts show New Jersey and New York City squarely in the 8-12 inch zone, with some models taking it as high as 14 inches, plus strong winds along the coast.
I'm thinking that could put an additional damper on the festivities.

(4,220 posts)I hope the immigration inspectors don't do what they did Godfather 2 on the Guv and REALLY change his name to Krispy Kreme.
Plus you get there either buy boat or the smallish bridge they built to do the renovations. I am sure it will be nice and warm in freaking New York Harbor!!!

(12,977 posts)I see it's not open to the public -- but that wouldn't bother someone like Christie. It does mean they wouldn't have to helicopter them all in, but trying to get from there from Trenton in the middle of a snowstorm still looks highly problematic.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

(6,262 posts)How about all the others with subpoenas?
Could be a smaller party than planned, even with an angry, cold Mother Nature.
Press availability? Ha Ha.

(9,494 posts)That's right. The big blow out that was planned by Christie's borther, is being held in a hall that is outside of New Jersey and part of New York!

(297,196 posts)Yeah, stalk them and if they don't move your Exact re-development wishes along.. cut them off of any monies from the Sandy Fund received from the Fed Gov. But, ooops.. see how that plays out in the end for our exposed a$$es!
