State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) is going after Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, her Republican opponent in the governor's race, in response to a report that she "blurred" details of her background.
Davis's comments are in response to a Dallas Morning News report which said she was 21, not 19 when she was divorced and lived for only a few months in a mobile home. Davis's campaign released a statement highlighting Abbott's attacks based on the report:
We're not surprised by Greg Abbott's campaign attacks on the personal story of my life as a single mother who worked hard to get ahead. But they won't work, because my story is the story of millions of Texas women who know the strength it takes when you're young, alone and a mother.
I've always been open about my life not because my story is unique, but because it isn't.

(4,742 posts)What kind of a low-life douche would make hay about whether someone lived in a mobile home for a few years or a few months? THAT GUY!
I hope she hands him his ass in the election.

(11,518 posts)I'll admit, it's been about 25 years since I lived in Texas, but when I did there seemed to be a much larger number of single women raising children than anywhere else I'd lived. I can't really guess why that was, but in any case there will be a lot of women who can relate to Wendy Davis and what she had to go through to make ends meet.

(9,461 posts)"single" mom. They claimed her daughters lived with her husband while she attended Harvard. They actually lived with her in Cambridge year one and then in Texas w/her husband after that but her mom watched the kids every day. They're trying to make it sound like she had a better life than the other single moms out there, and that she's not really one of them. Dividing up the women's vote is what they're trying. It won't work, though. There's too much truth out there.

(1 post)It's nice to imagine a world where George W. was not elected Texas governor.

Wendy reminds me more and more of Ann every day! Cannot wait to vote for her in November for governor of my beloved Texas!
