ERUSALEM (JTA) An al-Qaida cell suspected of planning several terror attacks in Israel, including on the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, was arrested.
A gag order on the three arrests made several weeks ago by Israels Shin Bet security service was lifted Wednesday by the Jerusalem Magistrate Court.
Two of the alleged terrorists are from the West Bank; the third is from eastern Jerusalem. They reportedly were planning at least two major attacks, including a suicide bombing and a truck bombing. The other target was the International Convention Center in Jerusalem.

(16,317 posts)The Shin Bet announced Wednesday that it had arrested three Palestinians from east Jerusalem who were recruited online by an al-Qaida operative in Gaza. It said the three were in the midst of preparations to carry out a string of large-scale bombing and shooting attacks on multiple targets in Israel.
The intended targets included the Jerusalem International Convention Center, a bus traveling between the capital and Maaleh Adumim, the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, and emergency responders who would have arrived at the scenes of attacks.
The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said an al-Qaida operative in Gaza, named as Ariv al-Sham, recruited the men separately as three independent terrorist cells. Senior Shin Bet sources said they believed Sham received his orders directly from the head of al-Qaida, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Using Skype and Facebook, Sham was able to recruit Iyad Khalil Abu-Sara, 23, of Ras Hamis of east Jerusalem, who has an Israeli ID card. During questioning, Abu-Sara, who was arrested on December 25, admitted to volunteering to carry out a sacrifice attack on an Israeli bus traveling between Jerusalem and Maaleh Adumim. In the planned attack, terrorists would shoot out the buss tires, causing it to overturn, before gunning down passengers at close range and firing on emergency responders.

(40,416 posts)By all means, let's build more settlements on the West Bank. Moar!!!!! I want MOAR!!!!!!!!!! God gave us this land!!!!! Arrrrrrgh!!!!!!!
There comes a time when one must sit back and reflect. Look at the consequences of ones actions. Above all, one must put oneself into your opponent's shoes.
Nope. That ain't bloody likely gonna happen any time soon in the Middle East.
Religion is destroying any chance for peace.
Both sides claim that some god says the land is theirs.
Both are wrong.

(9,688 posts)I knew those Palestinian terrorists were evil, but now that I know that their terrorists are al Qaeda terrorists I can't think of anything that could be worse.
Hopefully Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria are quickly expanded enough to secure the whole territory from those al Qaeda terrorist. Annexing the whole of area C would be a good start, and is of course on the US/Israel table. That would certainly force the al Qaeda terrorists out, which would be a good thing because al Qaeda doesn't belong in a civilized world.
I consider the source, Suspect.
