GOP House Candidate Says God Created Autism, Dementia And Tornadoes To Punish Gays
Source: TalkingPointsMemo.com
An Illinois Republican running for Congress believes God has unleashed debilitating disorders and destructive natural disasters because he is so upset with the growing support for gay rights.
If you're afflicted with autism or dementia, or if you've lost your worldly possessions due to a tornado, Susanne Atanus thinks you should blame the LGBT community.
"God is angry," Atanus told the Chicago Daily Herald during an endorsement session with the paper earlier this week. "We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions, she said. Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If its in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God.
Atanus is seeking the GOP nomination to challenge Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) in the Ninth District of Illinois.

(3,596 posts)that most of the nuttiest "whackos" that run for office actually have no interest in actually being elected or, heaven forbid, actually working were they to be elected.
I think they see their candidacy as their opportunity to say the most outlandish things - things they know the majority in their constituency don't believe or wouldn't support in a candidate.
Yes we know that the majority of pukes don't believe in evolution or climate change. But pukes nationally only have one in 4-5 that self-identify as such. So even if the majority of her base believe this stuff it isn't the majority in her district. That is especially true in a state like Illinois that has fairly consistently been governed by Democrats. There should be few true "red" districts there.
But her claims that same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS is simply not true. AIDS is primarily a heterosexual disease globally. It continues to be prevalent in discrete pockets in American society including younger gay men, IV drug users and increasingly women in the African-American community. AIDS itself is not increasing as HIV infections are identified earlier and treated fairly effectively with drug cocktails.
AIDS will not weaken our military. If someone in the military is determined to be infected the military will deal with that either considering it a reason to be unqualified for service and issue an honorable medical discharge or will treat the individual and have them carry on as before. I know several men who have been HIV+ for over 20 years and are living highly productive lives and only their closest friends even know they are infected.

Good, everyone of these wonderful examples of the GOP, that gets so much publicity, as he/she is apt to do, gets us closer to taking over congress. When the real truth comes out about Christie, and I think it will, (I hope so) that will really help. They trusted that asshole, he was their next great hope, and now, they see who he really is, slime. (no offense to slime) The very worst kind of person, as is this fool running against Schakowsky.

People punish people, and some people forgive other people.
My God is only about loving energy and available to all, regardless of their religion or beliefs.
This man's God is a figment of his warped imagination. He would benefit from knowing what God is really about.

(303 posts)they're attention- needy ignoramuses, in fact feel sorry for these morons.
for thousands of years, religion was the dominant ideology of the land, then science and evidence-based critical thinking began gaining ground in the Age of Enlightenment . slowly but surely people started leaving religious faith-systems to adopt critical thinking, those capable of thinking for themselves were the first to leave.
throughout the 1800's to the present, more and more scientific discoveries set into place the credibility of evidence-based critical thinking, gaining the respect of even more people. as reasonable people left the faith systems for more rational assertions and the most devout stayed behind, those who stayed behind relied upon increasingly irrational claims to back up their beliefs; they have such a strong crank magnetism.
the Rapture Right is a shrinking circle of ever increasing irrationality and willful ignorance, it must stink to be within that set.

Bishop: Lawmakers 'morally complicit' in sins of same-sex couples
Clout Street
7:01 a.m. CST, November 21, 2013
A Catholic bishop offered prayers of exorcism Wednesday in response to Gov. Pat Quinn's approval of an Illinois gay marriage law, and he suggested politicians are "morally complicit" in assisting the sins of same-sex couples.
Bishop Thomas Paprocki spoke Latin to send the message, "Be gone, Satan, father of lies, enemy of human salvation. Give way to Christ."
The head of the Springfield Diocese delivered his remarks to a large crowd of worshippers in the cavernous Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception only blocks from the Capitol, where lawmakers approved the same-sex marriage legislation two weeks ago.
"I exorcise you, every unclean sprit, every power of darkness, every incursion of the infernal enemy, every diabolical legion, cohort and faction, in the name and power of our Lord Jesus Christ," Paprocki said during the hourlong ceremony 200 miles from the bill-signing celebration in Chicago....

UPDATE: 12 p.m. -- Republican leaders came out strong against Atanus Thursday morning. Illinois Republican Chairman Jack Dorgan called on the candidate to end her congressional campaign, saying in a statement: "The offensive statements by Susanne Atanus have no place in the modern political debate, and she has no place on the ballot as a Republican. Her candidacy is neither supported nor endorsed by the leaders of our party, and she should withdraw from the race immediately.
Adam Robinson, chairman of the Chicago Republican Party, emphasized in another statement that Atanus "is not in any way affiliated with any of our efforts in the Chicago GOP, nor have we ever supported, endorsed, or assisted her in any way at any time."
