By Jonathan Stempel
NEW YORK, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arranging excessive campaign contributions to a candidate for the U.S. Senate.
According to an indictment made public on Thursday in federal court in Manhattan, D'Souza around August 2012 reimbursed people who he had directed to contribute $20,000 to the candidate's campaign. The candidate was not named in the indictment.
Attempts to reach D'Souza and a lawyer representing him were unsuccessful.
D'Souza was charged in the indictment with one count of making illegal contributions in the names of others, and one count of causing false statements to be made.

I always enjoy these things. He's gonna go whining and sniveling to his wrong-wing base and there'll undoubtedly be some sort of shakedown-of-the-idiots for his legal defense fund. Which can be a very good thing! It'll be that much less that many in their base will have available to contribute to other teabagger campaigns. I like seeing those bills and "desperate" appeals for money start to pile up! Watch 'em get pulled HARD, in too many directions! And then add some more!!!!

(430 posts)I have nothing positive to say about Dinesh D'Souza. Still, there are so many bigger creeps that have not been investigated and prosecuted. A few of the reaganistas were carted off, and then rehabilitated with the busheviks. But the busheviks are still free, and then there is all the other lying corrupt apparatchiks in the media that conspired with them. D'Souza may be dishonorable, and may be caught, but the legion is quite strong and staffed; and i only see the Reaper to eventually harvest them. And i am waiting most anxiously to hear the sizzle from Cheney when he meets his reward.

(20,226 posts)to believe - might be people who I could chat with in friendly at least small talk kind of way if they were just a neighbor or someone who I met socially. Dinesh D'Souza hits me as someone who is simply insufferably smug and utterly dishonest and fundamentally malevolent.

And how dumb is he to have basically embezzled this much money into a sure-to-lose campaign? Did he think he'd get in Long's pants by getting her money?!

(36,437 posts)D'Souza is actually quite stupid; he's not a smart person. That he is taken for a right wing intellectual is so very embarrassing for the conservatives who lift the cretin up. He's not a thinker. I saw him speak to the YAF at PSA several years back. His arguments were asinine. Even some of the conservative students were looking at each other like, "We paid for this guy to come and say *that*?" It's not surprising, in that sense, that he eventually gets pinched for some hare-brained scheme to add - what - a couple ten thousands to some shithead's coffers? Who would violate federal law for those kinds of "rewards?" I'll tell ya who: a moron. D'Souza is a fucking idiot.

D'Souza is such an annoying freak. It's nice to see him busted. There is something really fishy going on hear though. I'm interested in hearing the details as they emerge.
