Huckabee Doubles Down On Women Can't Control Libidos Comment

Not only is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) not apologizing for saying Democrats think women can't control their reproductive system without the help of the government, he's fundraising off those comments.
"I am apparently the worst conservative ever or at least the most annoying one according to the left wingers in Washington today," Huckabee wrote in his regular MikeHuckabee.com email to supporters Thursday night. "My remarks to the RNC today were immediately jumped on and blown sky high by hand-wringing, card carrying liberals from coast to coast, some of them in the media."
The email came hours after the former Arkansas governor, during a speech at the Republican National Committee's winter meeting, said Democrats "insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control, because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government."
In the email Huckabee also asks for donations to his political action committee so his critics can look at the committee's fundraising and "say see we told you so. Guess what liberals? If you can't stand to look at yourself in the mirror, then get ready for more of this talk, because conservatives are going to continue to fight back against your destructive policies towards women and families," Huckabee continued in the email.

Santorum: Huckabee Comment On Women's Libidos Was 'Off The Cuff'

No, Mike Huckabee Wasn't Speaking "Off the Cuff"
By David Weigel
Catherine Thompson captures some comments by Rick Santorum on Crossfire, made in the wake of Mike Huckabee's "libido" speech.
This is basically the opposite of true. Like I mentioned yesterday, the RNC speech was only the second time in a week that Huckabee went on a riff about how Democrats were talking to women as if they couldn't control their lady urges. From his weekend Fox News show:

Pelosi: Huckabee's Remark Wouldn't Have Passed Muster 100 Years Ago
TOM KLUDT JANUARY 24, 2014, 6:27 AM EST1216
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Mike Huckabee's head-scratching remark about women and their "libidos" would have been a retrograde sentiment even a century ago.
One of Capitol Hill's most outspoken supporters of women's reproductive rights, Pelosi used Twitter on Thursday to zing the former Arkansas governor.

(3,596 posts)Access to contraception is not a controversial issue. Even Santorum acknowledged that the issue of contraception is not controversial as between Democrats and Republicans and Santorum is about as religious nutty as they come.
Huckabee seems to suggest that the government shouldn't be paying for the contraception because heaven knows women will be sluts if they could get pregnant. And for him of course sex is only for making babies.
The reality is the federal government does not provide a prescription for contraceptives to any woman. He is very confused. Contraception is, however, under the ACA, covered both under Medicaid and private insurance policies. The federal and state governments may provision contraceptives for Medicaid patients as part of the Medicaid insurance program. But it is under the regi of the Medicaid insurance program. Those insured privately have no government involvement in their contraception other than we require insurance companies to cover.
See for Huck he likes Sharia Law. He thinks women should keep their legs shut if they aren't married and not working on making more babies.
If women dare to have recreational sex and especially with someone to whom they are not married, she should be on her own for contraception because otherwise we are demeaning her. What kind of crap is that?
But I'm sure he is all for ensuring Viagra is available and included in Medicaid and private insurance.

Huckabee is saying that's what Democrats think, and no Democrat I know of feels that way. Those thoughts are in HIS mind and he (I can't think of the right word right now) is attributing his own thoughts to others. Classic. Just like the guy from the south a few years ago that seemed to think that all country boys had sex with animals (obviously because he did or wanted to).

(748 posts)He seems to think that the purpose of the pill is to reduce a woman's libido, as opposed to preventing conception.
This reminds me of Limbaugh and his expectation that the number of pills a woman takes is proportional to the number of times she has sex.
They're both ignorant of the way the pill works.
(Mind you, controlling a woman's libido is a long term goal of the Conservative Christians, so maybe that's why it's on his mind.)

(If she's married, of COURSE, her role is to submit willingly ...but not enthusiastically... to her husband's manly "needs." Thus, by enabling women to obtain contraceptive care, Dems are encouraging them to submit to their baser nature's, instead of allowing them to exercise their true moral strength by denying any nasty sexual urges.

Is it possible that these MEN ON THE RIGHT, don't know what birth control is actually used for? If that is the case, do they believe that a contraceptive actually helps women to increase sex drive? IF that is the case, why are we not banning Viagra when we KNOW the purpose of that drug is to increase sex drive? How stupid are these so called MEN???? Should they sign up for sex education 101? They are either stupid, or willfully ignorant or complete male chauvinists. I used birth control for many years for more reasons than to control births and one thing I can guarantee, it NEVER increased my libido!!! In fact, the side affects were very risky for me but I also could not afford any more children and really bad health issues anyway. I never had a 4 hour orgasm that I needed to go to the emergency room for!!!! Birth Control Pills are used for exactly what the name implies. Shocking, isn't it?
Some are saying(in this thread) that this is not exactly what he said. It pretty much is in a nutshell BUT, IF that is not the exact statement that was made, does that make the meaning of what he was saying any less impactful? If he isn't saying those exact words, he is certainly implying that women cannot control their sexual desires without HELP from a drug of SOME SORT, wouldn't you agree? Or an Uncle Sugar, which I have never heard of in my life. I assume he is referring to a SUGAR DADDY which definitely makes it clearer as to what he is calling females. How disgusting that ANY MAN would say such a thing and worse, THAT ANY MAN FROM THE LEFT, RIGHT OR MIDDLE would defend a man for saying such a thing. At the very least, his comments lead to a very sexist statement. I would like to believe that we have come a long way from where we were but it seems to me, we just haven't. THIS is NOT the only issue in which the RIGHT proves and shows willful ignorance . It proves the very point that they have NO RESPECT for females in any way. Why else do they force us to fight for every thing that a man seems to have an inalienable right to? How many times do we need to fight? Some men act as though this is something THEY OWN and that only they can decide who has these rights and who doesn't. Why is that?? How did MEN inherit the right to decide what another human being should have or not have? Should own or not own? Should control or allow someone else to control? Especially something as important as one's body? Why do MEN even have this power??? How long are we going to allow men to FEEL LIKE THEY OWN OR SHOULD OWN THIS POWER? Women have to stop this trend now because it is LONG PAST DUE!!!
I am sorry, but I can find no reason to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is NOT a sexist, or misogynist. He has demonstrated that in no uncertain terms. There are a number of ways he could have disagreed with the use of birth control than what he said. There IS NO DEFENSE for this male chauvinist pig and I don't personally know a single woman who is not insulted by it. You can try to defend it by saying his words are misconstrued (which they aren't) but it still goes back to their RELIGIOUS belief that the only purpose and right of a woman to have sex is to have children and they should have no say in that one way or another. THAT is what it all boils down to AND THAT MY FRIENDS DOES MEAN WAR. If they think women were loud in 2012, let these so called men keep talking. It won't be a hard on that last four hours they will need to be concerned about, that is for certain! Women have had and heard enough of the bull crap from the right to last a lifetime. The effect you will feel with comments and attitudes toward women that even come close to resembling what Huckabee said, will last much longer than 4 hours and there will be no medical cure for it. Thanks for allowing me to share my opinion.
