Valley business leaders ask (Arizona Gov.) Brewer to veto religion bill

Source: Arizona Republic

A day after the Arizona Legislature passed legislation on a hotly debated religion bill, the leaders of the Valley's economic-development council called on Gov. Jan Brewer to veto the bill or risk damaging the state's image and its economic recovery.

In a letter sent Friday morning, the economic officials raise concerns that the bill, which shields businesses from being sued if they deny service based on religious beliefs, could cast a negative light on the state as it prepares to host a number of high-profile events, including next year’s Super Bowl.

Barry Broome, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, said the group has already heard from four companies being wooed by the Arizona Commerce Authority which have said they will look elsewhere if Senate Bill 1062 becomes law.

“This legislation has the potential of subjecting the Super Bowl, and major events surrounding it, to the threats of boycotts,” Broome and James Lundy, GPEC’s board chairman, said in the letter.

11. yeah back in 2012 or 13 she supported a Medicaid expansion in her state

in other words backed Obamacare. Brewer is up for re-election this year, correct?

But if SB 1070 taught her anything, she can fire up the crazy right wingers in her state at no cost whatsoever.

5. There was a stroy about this in my daily rag ...

and in the comments section, a local merchant and Nation of Islam member, posted that he couldn't wait for the law to go into effect. He had a sign made up indicating that he fully intended to bar Christians from his establishment on religious grounds.

Boy, you should have seen the howling!
