Former Bush aide: Arizona anti-gay Christians use religion like Islamic terrorists
By David Edwards
Sunday, February 23, 2014 13:53 EST

President George W. Bush’s former chief strategist Matthew Dowd on Sunday likened Christians in Arizona who are using religion to discriminate against LGBT people to Islamic terrorists.

Last week, Arizona’s legislature passed a bill that would allow business owners to assert religious beliefs as an excuse to discriminate against gay and lesbian customers.

On Sunday, ABC’s Martha Raddatz asked Dowd to predict if Gov. Jan Brewer (R) would sign the bill into law.

“I think, in the end, Gov. Brewer is probably going to veto this because it seems like an easy veto for her to do because of everything that’s going in the business economy there,” Dowd explained.

She is supposed to be term limited with this being her last term. But I think I read somewhere about her wanting to challenge the term limits. If she wants to run again I bet she'll sign it or just let it go into law after five days without her signature. I think letting it just go into effect without her signature is the most likely thing that will happen.

Note George Takei's take..

George Takei to Arizona: 'You Don't Deserve Our Dollars'

"He goes on to say that he and his husband, Brad, “have strong ties to Arizona.” Brad was born in Phoenix, and the two have friends and family in the state. They often vacation in the Arizona town of Show Low.

If the bill becomes law, he says, “We will not come. We will not spend. And we will urge everyone we know — from large corporations to small families on vacation — to boycott. Because you don’t deserve our dollars. Not one red cent.” He also notes that the state’s initial refusal to recognize the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday resulted in a boycott that cost Arizona $500 million. “Maybe you just never learn,” he writes.

He concludes, “If our appeals to equality, fairness, and our basic right to live in a civil society without doors being slammed in our face for being who we are don’t move you, I’ll bet a big hit to your pocketbook and state coffers will."

The Christian taliban.

Always screaming about Obama enacting Shraia law all the while drafting their own version for everyone who dares not be a rich, white, christanist male.

Glad you're here! They totally are Talibanic. The Taliban's "Western Auxiliary," I suppose. And they are indeed attempting to promote Sharia law. A weird, sick type of Christian Sharia Law. They'd hate it if the Muslims did this. So why do THEY do it? (And why do they think theirs is so different and doesn't count? Well - I think we all know!)

Glad you're here. One more voice AGAINST these assholes! And we need all we can get, because they don't seem to be fading out or going away, do they?

If AZ would make more money by implementing a bigoted law, you would not hear a peep out of any Republican.

Economic Boycotts can and do work, everyone should be cognizant of where the money they spend goes and spend accordingly.

image a bit. I recall when Reagan came out against The Briggs Initiative in 1978 - a California initiative that would have made it illegal for a gay person to work as a school teacher in California - it did improve his image without harming his standing among right-wing fundamentalist.
