Florida Parents Arrested After Abandoning Three Kids in the Woods

Source: ABC News

A Florida couple was arrested for abandoning their three young children in the woods, authorities said.

Michael and Sarah Butcher, both 30, were first arrested Friday after illegally parking their red truck in a private RV park in Punta Gorda.

Cops later found crystal meth in their car's glove compartment, along with a syringe and a burnt spoon, according to the arrest report.

After the pair was taken to jail –- where they repeatedly claimed to be brother and sister –- the police received a call that three children were found walking in the woods, “very dirty, hungry, and cold,” according to a police report.

Anyone who still says legalize meth, should have their head examined.

Meth is already legal. It's a Schedule II controlled substance, sold under the brand name Desoxyn. Comrade Grumpy Mar 2014 #5

Perhaps I should have re-phrased, "why the HELL would anyone freely make available" meth?

It, like codeine, promises to be highly abusive… which it is.

So, unless one has prescription for these, they shouldn't be used…. Even so, they are abused.

I imagine they will be put in some sort of Child Protective Services agency. Sadly, from what I hear in the news, their life in one of those places, or in foster care, will still be pretty horrific. Especially in Florida.

I remember crying, as a preschooler, when my Mother read that story to me.
I hope there is a good and interested family member who can care for these children.
Obviously, their parents can't, or won't.

that people should need to pass a mandatory background + psychological check and counseling before they are allowed to procreate.

No one ever abandoned a child before it existed, and everyone knows that no one does it while it's illegal!

What a silly argument. We'd still be better off legalizing it, taxing the hell out of it, and putting the money from the taxes into rehab programs for the people addicted to it (Which would include taking care of the kids of parents that are addicted) than we are now.

The definition of insanity isn't trying something new when the old way never worked. Anyone that screams until they're blue in the face that prohibition totally works ought to try using their head for more than ballast.

The lab produced, pharmaceutical industry's meth-cousins Ritalin and Adderall are much cleaned-up cousins to meth...another reason to find a way to end the War on Drugs with a more creative, rational approach.
