Ukraine crisis: bugged call reveals conspiracy theory about Kiev snipers

Source: The Guardian

A leaked phone call between the EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet has revealed that the two discussed a conspiracy theory that blamed the killing of civilian protesters in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on the opposition rather than the ousted government.

The 11-minute conversation was posted on YouTube – it is the second time in a month that telephone calls between western diplomats discussing Ukraine have been bugged.

In the call, Paet said he had been told snipers responsible for killing police and civilians in Kiev last month were protest movement provocateurs rather than supporters of then-president Viktor Yanukovych. Ashton responds: "I didn't know … Gosh."

This story has been percolating today. The Guardian picked it up and they are credible. The video left me with many questions, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

than Yanukovych ordering this.

--------------

From your link:

The use of mercenaries, death squads and snipers by Western intelligence agencies is well documented. No rational government attempting to stay in power would resort to unknown snipers to intimidate its opponents. Shooting at innocent protestors would be counterproductive in the face of unmitigated pressure from Western governments determined to install a client regime in Damascus. Shooting of unarmed protestors is only acceptable in dictatorships that enjoy the unconditional support of Western governments such as Bahrain, Honduras or Colombia.

The Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG) is a think tank based in Montreal, Canada. It operates websites in English (globalresearch.ca) and French (mondialisation.ca) as well as other languages. It is also involved in book publishing, public conferences and lectures, and produces a weekly radio programme (The Global Research News Hour). According to its website, over 6000 authors have contributed to globalresearch.ca,[1] which according to Alexa Internet was ranked in the top 15,000 websites globally as of 4 September 2013.[2] Globalresearch.ca says that it "welcomes submissions", and whilst submissions are subject to "editorial review", it offers the disclaimer that "the views expressed in Global Research articles are the sole responsibility of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect those of the Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG)".[1]

A 2005 article in The Jewish Tribune criticized GlobalResearch.ca as "rife with anti-Jewish conspiracy theory and Holocaust denial." B'nai Brith Canada had complained that there were comments on a forum that questioned how many Jews died in the Holocaust. Website editor Michel Chossudovsky responded that there was a disclaimer that the website was not to be held responsible for the views expressed in the forum, and he had the comment removed. He also said that he was of Jewish heritage and would be one of the last people to condone antisemitic views.[3] The same article also reported that B'nai Brith Canada wrote a letter to the University of Ottawa (Chossudovsky's former employer) asking for the university "to conduct its own investigation of this propagandist site."[3]

CRG was described in 2011 as having "an intimate and wildly successful relationship" with the RT network (previously known as "Russia Today&quot . Contributors to CRG include Thierry Meyssan.[4]

Oboler heads the newly formed Community Internet Engagement Project, commissioned by the Zionist Federation of Australia. He is more disturbed by antisemitic messages on social media networks such as Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia.
“Web sites are six years old. Today, search engines and social networks such as Facebook are what matters,” Oboler told the Jewish Tribune.
He is particularly disturbed that Facebook’s Jewish owner doesn’t consider Holocaust denial a form of antisemitism but rather a form of “political speech.”
Oboler asked, “What are we doing wrong in Holocaust education?” He is concerned that antisemitic content will “virally spread” on the relatively uncontrolled social media networks as an acceptable viewpoint.
“Imagine what Hitler could’ve done had he had Facebook. We need to get rid of the hateful content,” he added.

Victoria Nuland was discussing this with US Ambassador and was looking ahead to a glue job by the UN.

US Ambassador was handing out cookies to the protesters in the Maidan.

Yanukovytch agreed to a EU brokered deal to hold early elections.

Armed thugs took over government buildings and forced the parliament to depose Yanukovytch even after his agreement with the EU.

All of this walks like, quacks like and looks like a CIA led operation for regime change and to deprive Russia of its Crimean naval base, perhaps with a long term view of attacking Syria.

Unfortunately, it backfired.

that only the protestors were sniping. I don't think that the OP interprets the conversation correctly. The man was trying to "sell" the idea that the snipers were from the opposition, but he did not mention any evidence or proof other than that a doctor had looked at the bullet wounds. You need a forensic expert to determine whether the same guns were used. The gentleman in the conversation was repeating what amounts to unverified reports or to use a common term, gossip.

Now the claim that the snipers were all from the opposition to Yanukovich may be true, but that conversation is not a reliable source however truthful the gentleman may have tried to be. You need an expert determination as to what caused the deaths and then a ballistics analysis, etc.

The snipers were videoed in government controlled buildings and areas. Many were around guard groups at the time of the shootings. We even have video from the side of the police showing the snipers shooting. It would be very very difficult to show how these guys were with the opposition.

For instance, you're a bunch of police, and some guys, in your group, start shooting sniper weapons. Standing idly by if your orders are to use less lethal means? That makes you 100% complicit.

Even in Venezuela where SEBIN was seen with shooters, they were arrested.

They weren't vetted before being allowed into government controlled buildings and areas?

Hint: most of the snipers were shown in government controlled buildings and areas.

Is that the man said someone told him they think some of the shooting was done by persons opposed to the government.

This is a far cry from 'Snipers were hired by Maidain Nazis employed by Western intelligence agencies!'

If the Yanukovich government did it, although it would have involved more than one person, it's not a "conspiracy" - because it's the official story of the Western media. If the snipers were with the Nazis or other violent factions supporting the Euromaidan, then it's a "conspiracy theory" - because it's not the official story of the Western media. Get it?
