Egypt’s powerful military commander Abdel Fatah al-Sissi to run for president

Source: Washington Post

Egypt’s powerful military commander Abdel Fatah al-Sissi formally announced his plan to run for president, in a long anticipated address to the nation Wednesday night.

After a long meeting with a council of the country’s top military officers, Sissi said he resigned from his position as defense minister and commander of the armed forces.

“I am standing in front of you for the last time in the military uniform,” he said. “I announce my intention to run for president.”

Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has announced that he has resigned as Egypt's military chief in order to stand for the presidency.

He made the widely expected announcement on state television.

The field marshal led the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi in July following mass opposition protests.

Correspondents say he is likely to win the presidential poll, given his popularity and the lack of any serious rivals........fiar assumption given that few if any will remain alive.

At least the protesters will get what they wanted - Animal fucking Farm.

This will keep Egypt out of the hands of the Jihad/Sharia crowd and will place it on a liberal and secular path with protection of minorities and more focus on education and job creation than fundie religion.
