Charlotte mayor resigns after arrest on corruption charges

Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon was arrested Wednesday on public corruption charges, with the FBI alleging he took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes including $20,000 in cash delivered in a briefcase last month to the mayors office where he also solicited $1 million more.

(1,278 posts)The mayor is essentially a figurehead, cheerleader if you will of city government, and a "part-time" job. The city is governed by council-manager, he gets the large $$ to actually administer the city based on council objectives.
Patrick Cannon ran a parking company, Anthony Foxx (current Transportation Secretary) is a lawyer, Pat McCrory (current Governor of NC) was employed by Duke Power/Energy, Sue Myrick (ret. Congresswoman) had an advertising agency, and Harvey Gantt is an active architect.
Out of the five most recent mayors (Patsy Kinsey was temporary and maybe again soon) I have personally met one, who happens to be Governor.
