State GOP gets to vote on secession at convention

Source: Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal

April 14, 2014 4:00 a.m.

To secede or not to secede.

That will be the question for Wisconsin Republicans at next month's convention.

Earlier this month, the party's Resolutions Committee voted in favor of a proposal that says the state party "supports legislation that upholds Wisconsin's right, under extreme circumstances, to secede."

A version of the so-called "state sovereignty" resolution was first OK'd last month by one of the state GOP's eight regional caucuses as an assertion of the state's 10th Amendment rights. The measure also calls for ending all mandates that go "beyond the scope of the constitutionally delegated powers of the federal government."

Top Republican officials hoped to kill the fringe proposal during a meeting of the resolutions panel at the Hyatt Hotel in Milwaukee on April 5. Instead, the committee made a few edits to the resolution and adopted it on a split vote.

Once they secede, meaning they can't send their own delegations to D.C., lose tax support from United States, lose military support, lose national guard, Scott Walker can't run for President, Wisconsinites will have to purchase the passport to travel outside of country Wisconsin, and will also lose privilege of state ship in future.

The Republican Party was founded in Wisconsin in 1854. Abraham Lincoln, as a Republican, won the presidency in 1860. Historically it is valid to say his presidency consisted of not allowing a state to secede. The War for the Union was fought in a bloody struggle from 1861 to 1865. Lincoln lost his life because that proposition was achieved.

Now, shift to what the Republican Party is to-day. One does not know whether to smack his forehead, or puke.

It is midway between Jacksonport and Egg Harbor, belonged to my husband's now deceased parents. He owns it with his sister. We hope to get there this summer during the symphony season. Since his spinal surgeries he has problems with the steps getting to the house. It is very peaceful and quiet. We like to eat at fish fries on Friday nights. He likes the fish boils but I find them kinda tasteless. We were there last in 2011...

There are some really nice (expensive) houses and then some that are not so nice. We've rented two that were both very quiet and homey. It's a good way to go.

We backed out of the fish boil because my friend has breathing problems and the kerosene smell was pretty heavy.

There is a tavern out in the country that has great fish with another one across the road that caters to children with outside toys. Can't remember the name of the first but we really enjoyed our meal.

a lot all year long. It's hike for us to get out there. There are also issues between us and his sister and her RW husband that have made things very difficult. We may or may not be there this August. I love the symphony so much that it is one of the major reasons I like to go. I can get wonderful fresh fish here in New England and my daughter has a vacation home on Martha's Vineyard, so I have no lack of other summertime vacation places. But I would hate to see my husband unable to visit his parents' home there, esp. since it is so peaceful and quiet...good for the soul.

They will need passports to cross state lines.

They will no longer be a taker state: what they pay in taxes is all they get.

They would be taken off the power grid.

Any Federal lands would be off-limits. They don't actually think they get to keep all that military stuff, do they?

They would be hit by roaming charges, as the phone companies' would immediately see them as off-network, since their contracts only cover the actual United States.

Oil companies would charge them import fees.

Pretty-much every company would add a currency surcharge.

after acquiring a guest worker visa. Clearing customs twice a day would be a real pain in the ass.

They would no longer benefit from the Coast Guard or the Army Corps of Engineers. The Docks in Superior would be ice bound much longer in the spring, and they would have to do their own dredging.

The NFL would likely dump the Packers and sell another franchise to the US city that gives the most in concessions to the league.
