(1,144 posts)Georgia's state government practically worships guns to the point that they don't recognize the rights of non-gun owning citizens.

(54,770 posts)Interestingly, this was a relatively minor incident at a predominantly Black university (unlike when white wing, often permitted, gun lovers open fire for the hell of it on a bunch of kids, or the militia shows up with their guns to intimidate.)

(39,171 posts)I don't understand your comments regarding race - are you saying that the race of the shooter is the deciding factor as to whether the incident was major or minor? I understand your fixation on race, but don't think you really want to go there.

(54,770 posts)they turn to guns. It's plain as day, even in Gungeon.

(39,171 posts)so how does that fit into your meme?
Lets remember that interracial shootings are not the norm - usually white shoot whites and blacks shoot blacks.

(1,254 posts)They are all "law-abiding" citizens until the day they massacre dozens of people. Then they turn into that odd nutcase. So now the cops have the additional burden of trying to determine who is the shooter on campus and who is just one of the law-abiding citizen now free legally to carry a weapon. Not like the cops won't mistakenly shoot the wrong person. THAT never happens.

(2,062 posts)Now as an open carry anywhere is Georgia open to more of this crazy stuff, and we shall see if this law doesn't cost states more budget funding.

(15,064 posts)The State of Georgia has created a situation where the next mass murder will probably be committed there. Some pissed off gun nut will take his or her frustration out on innocent people and we will have another debate that will result in nothing. The NRA has a GUN to the heads of us all. And if we don't do what the NRA says one of their members or non dues paying followers will use a gun to "Keep the 2nd Amendment safe!" Because we have no other "real" Amendments or Rights. They are all being slowly destroyed by the same right wing creeps who want to just keep the 2nd and dispose of the rest. The Kochs, the NRA and the Tea Party are destroying Free Speech, Privacy, the Right to Pursue Happiness, no matter what that happiness is, Equal Rights in the fairness of race and the fairness that we "should have" when it comes participating in the economy. The only ones who make "real" money are the rich. Investing requires minimums. A rule that was put in place by corporate lobbyists. If the minimum wage isn't raised no one will have the money to invest in a small french fry much less a stock or a small business. The corporate conglomerates are taking over every aspect of our lives. Even our private and personal lives. It's economical and political rape and they want us to just "lay back and enjoy it".
Well said, and very true.

(3,596 posts)Georgia politicians have been on a trajectory to take this state to the bottom of the heap. They have cut funding for public education, transportation, law enforcement, pre-K, all manner of public programs to help the poor and the sick. The winners? The winners have been the usual suspects - the wealthy, monied interests in the form of reduced taxes and regulation on businesses.
They think if they get taxes to near zero for big money they will come to Georgia. Their bi-line is this will create jobs. In reality the only bi-line is big money will continue to fund their campaigns. The problem is for companies that require skilled labor Georgia isn't going to make it. If you don't invest in public education and make a commitment to turning out an educated workforce, companies cannot come here.
And then there are 3 GOP "G"s....gays, god and guns.
They tried this legislative session to codify "hate the gays" so that businesses could refuse to serve you if you were gay or perceived as gay. The business community came out strongly against this including Delta. No doubt they will try this again next year in order to "ensure religious liberty".
But then they combined god and guns with the guns anywhere bill that will go into effect July 1. Now you can take your gun anywhere except where specifically prohibited such as courthouses and of course the state offices of the legislature including the capitol. No policeman can ask you to see your concealed carry permit. You can carry your gun into the airport, churches and bars.
What could possibly go wrong? So while this incident is not directly related to the new guns anywhere bill it is a symptom of a culture gone wrong where guns and money are loved but people are reviled.
