Obama Administration To Reveal Justification For Drone Strikes On U.S. Citizens

WASHINGTON (AP) — On the eve of a critical Senate vote and under court order, the Obama administration signaled it will publicly reveal a secret memo describing its legal justification for using drones to kill U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism overseas.

Two administration officials told The Associated Press that the Justice Department has decided not to appeal a Court of Appeals ruling requiring disclosure of a redacted version of the memo under the Freedom of Information Act. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

The decision to release the documents comes as the Senate is to vote Wednesday on advancing President Barack Obama's nomination of the memo's author, Harvard professor and former Justice Department official David Barron, to sit on the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had vowed to fight Barron's confirmation, and some Democratic senators were calling for the memo's public release before a final vote.

Wednesday's expected procedural vote would allow the Senate to move ahead with a final vote on Barron on Thursday. "I think we'll be OK," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said earlier Tuesday.

and I hope they put thumbs down on the idiot who wrote it. Then they can forbid any such shenanigans ever happening again.

We do not need any more John Yoos, John Mitchells, or other corrupt lawyers in government. We need to get rid of the ones that are there already, right up to Roberts, Thomas and Scalia at the top of the pile.

who went home to a moslem country to visit or whatever. And the NSA/CIA/USA decided they didn't like what he was doing over there, so the Obama Administration went to this secret FISA court, which was secretly appointed by Supreme Court Justice Roberts, and asked for permission to kill him dead...without trial or any kind of "due process" as is the right of any US citizen under our Constitution. With drones. And they did.

After all your racist slurs against the Roma, I'm surprised you're still around. But please go on about your vision of America, which I guess does not include Roma, free press or even democracy anyway.

was correct in their actions, and now are going to reap US taxpayer dollars for oil used by Ukraine. Your continued insistence that that woman's meddling in Kieve did not lead to a gigantic disaster was your mistake. Now with BRICS and the Erasian spread of petro-dollars minus the dollar, all will change with the Russians in charge of their destiny and others as well.

which is to say that any American near the intended target is at risk. Common sense says that attacking Americans overseas, and hitting innocent victims, will only create the opportunity for domestic terror that never existed before. Blowback repercussions, is what I see.

And once it is revealed we will be told ..."see it is all perfectly leagal"...just like the spying and all that stuff.
The last bits of the constitution are being removed right before our eyes.

(not said by me, other say that)

normal law during peacetime,
would be that wanted fugitives must
be given a chance to surrender
before they are bumped off.

during wartime, enemy combatants,
for the most part,
can be fired upon without warning.
