Jailed Tibetan monk and activist surfaces in India

He's a monk and an activist who once helped make a documentary on the lives of Tibetans under Chinese rule. Twice, he was imprisoned for his work. Today, Golog Jigme Gyatso is something else: free .
It was announced Monday that Gyatso had safely arrived in Dharamsala, India - home of the Dalai Lama.
The roughly 45-year-old vanished two years ago. He had been wanted then by police in China for allegedly protecting other monks wanted for questioning following a disturbance. He simply disappeared - surfacing only yesterday in India. It is not yet known if Gyatso was released or escaped. It was the second time Gyatso had been detained.
In 2008, he was arrested for assisting Dhondup Wangchen make a 25-minute documentary. That film, Leaving Fear Behind , was a collection of interviews with Tibetans describing life under Chinese rule. Gyatso was allegedly beaten and tortured during his first detention, though details of his most recent incarceration are not yet available.
