'I have a plan to save the country': Chip Maxwell to run against Lee Terry (R-NE)

WASHINGTON Chip Maxwell confirmed Wednesday that he plans to run this fall against incumbent Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb.
"I am running for Congress," Maxwell said in an emailed statement. "I am not ready to make a formal announcement because Im still putting together my campaign plan and team. I have a plan to save the country, but first I have to put together a winning campaign plan."
Maxwell indicated he plans to get onto the general election ballot as a nonpartisan candidate through the petition process. It's a move that would add an unpredictable element to the race and could significantly hamper Terry's chances of holding onto the seat.
First, Maxwell has to collect 2,000 signatures by Sept. 1 in order to be placed on the ballot alongside Terry and the Democratic nominee, Brad Ashford.

Of course, anything that dilutes the Republican vote is going to be helpful.

"As for his party switch, Maxwell said that was merely a procedural move to get him on the ballot. He said he plans to rejoin the GOP after the election and serve in Congress as a Republican."

I hope I'm wrong. I hope it draws wingnuts away from Terry.
