PENNSYLVANIA WON'T APPEAL SAME-SEX MARRIAGE CASE

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Same-sex marriage won a second victory in two days in Pennsylvania, as the governor said Wednesday that he will not appeal a court decision that struck down the state's ban.

Gov. Tom Corbett's decision Wednesday means that same-sex marriage will remain legal in Pennsylvania, without the threat that a higher court will reinstate the ban.

"The case is extremely unlikely to succeed on appeal," Corbett said in a statement. "Therefore, after review of the opinion and on the advice of my commonwealth legal team, I have decided not to appeal."

On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge John Jones III struck down Pennsylvania's 1996 law banning recognition of gay marriage, calling it unconstitutional. One widow, 11 couples and one couple's teenage daughters had sued.

Only problem of course, teabaggers and "conservatives" hate him for bending to the "godless leftist movement" while the left and moderates hate him to begin with.

When I looked at the primary numbers this morning, Wolf got almost 120K more votes than Corbett did (checked this afternoon and there was very little change). This doesn't count another 400K total votes that the other 3 Dem candidates received, and Corbett ran unopposed after he knocked a teabagger off the ballot.

So when you add it up, Corbett got about 370K votes and the Democrats (total) got about 840K votes.

That people aren't fighting marriage equality for political expediency. This would have been unthinkable only 3 or 4 years ago.

is gone. The right flank will not forgive you for not appealing this case. Anyone on the non far right who was not going to vote for you still will not vote for you.

PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane said over a year ago she would no longer defend Pennsylvania's Anti-Equality Marriage laws. Corbett was pissed and said he would bring in outside lawyers to handle it if Kane refused. She didn't budge.

Corbett is already highly unpopular and marriage equality is something that Pennsylvanians overwhelmingly support. So this is nothing more than Corbett trying to keep his job. If he somehow manages to get re-elected you can be assured he will try to appeal.

Let's hope Mr Corbett makes history by being the first sitting PA governor not to win a reelection bid.
