Source: BBC
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has extended a week-long ceasefire with pro-Russian separatists in the east for another three days.
He said he was hoping for progress on his peace plan.

(27,866 posts)It appears that the Ukraine has a wise leader.
Too bad Russia does not.

He's the consummate "insider" and why he's the darling of the West.

(3,982 posts)I can't say the last 24 hours but up until at least Thursday Kyiv had never stopped shelling. Not a good way to get the opposing militants to stand down.
Maybe they need to pull back the "Asov" terror battallion? (the one made up of with half convicts and otherwise a predominance of Far Right (Svoboda, Right Sector, etc)?
Someone on the Ukrainian side shelled a Russian border crossing.
Poroschenko needs time to rearm. Maybe he can get advice from Biden's kid?

In the latest fighting, separatists opened fire with mortars on the airfield of the town of Kramatorsk, a Ukrainian forces base near Kryva Luka and another base in Donetsk region, local media reports say. But no casualties were reported, military reporter Dmytro Tymchuk said on his Facebook page.
A gas distribution station was also targeted in the third attack. There were no casualties on the government side.
One of the leaders of the self-declared "Donetsk People's Republic" in the east, Aleksander Boroday, said the new truce would be observed until 30 June.

(3,982 posts)of his "15 point plan" passed. And with how unyielding the rest of the government is it remains to be seen if it can be accomplished.
But if he is able to get it past the junta PMs it will be a place to start from and hopefully ease tensions while talks continue.
