U.S. preparing unilateral sanctions on Russia

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is considering imposing unilateral sanctions on Russia over its threatening moves in Ukraine, a shift in strategy that reflects the Obama administration's frustration with Europe's reluctance to take tougher action against Moscow, according to U.S. and European officials.

Until now, the U.S. has insisted on hitting Russia with penalties in concert with Europe in order to maximize the impact and present a united Western front. The European Union has a far stronger economic relationship with Russia, making the 28-nation bloc's participation key to ensuring sanctions packages have enough teeth to deter Russia.

But those same economic ties have made Europe fearful that tougher penalties against Russia could boomerang and hurt their own economies. After weeks of inaction, the officials say the U.S. is now prepared to move forward alone if EU officials fail to enact strong sanctions during a meeting Wednesday in Brussels.

The U.S. official cautioned that no final decisions would be made until after the European meeting. The officials insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly by name.

two countries who produce them on a large scale, and the Chinese tubes absolutely suck. You would knock out virtually all major tube amp manufacturers such as McIntosh, Audio Research, Conrad Johnson... not to mention companies who make guitar amps. That would be a lot of people laid off from American companies due to embargo or uber high prices on key components.

Sorry, but as a buyer of Russian electronic components and builder of tube amps.....news like this just makes my butt pucker right up.

Parubiy was the founder of the Social National Party of Ukraine, a fascist party styled on Hitler's Nazis, with membership restricted to ethnic Ukrainians.

From December 2013 to February 2014 Parubiy was a commandant of Euromaidan.[12] He was coordinator of the volunteer security corps for the mainstream protesters.[13] He was then appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.[3] This appointed was approved by (then) new Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on 16 June 2014.[14]

Parubiy oversees the "anti–terrorist" operation against pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.[15]

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski thinks the Polish-American alliance is “worthless” and “bullshit,” according to tapes of a private conversation released by Polish magazine Wprost.

“The Polish-American alliance is not worth anything. It’s even damaging, because it creates a false sense of security in Poland. It’s complete bullshit,” Sikorski says. “We will get a conflict with both Russians and Germans, and we’re going to think that everything is great, because we gave the Americans a blowjob. Suckers. Total suckers.”

But the crisis in Syria has ruptured the old "axis of resistance," with regional forces giving the two organizations opposing stakes in the conflict and bringing unprecedented tension to their relationship. While Hezbollah fighters have fought and died for Bashar al-Assad in some of the civil war's fiercest battles, Hamas has thrown in its lot with the rebels and retreated deeper into the embrace of Sunni Islamist powers in the region.
