Republicans to Cut Obama’s U.S. Border Funding Request

Source: Bloomberg

By Michael C. Bender and James Rowley Jul 16, 2014 12:41 PM ET

Republicans will grant only enough of President Barack Obama’s $3.7 billion spending request to address the immediate crisis of migrant children at the U.S.- Mexico border, the House Appropriations chairman said.

“We’re trying to sift out of his request those items and dollar numbers that need to be done immediately,” Hal Rogers, a Kentucky Republican, told reporters yesterday in Washington. “The rest of what he’s requested we can consider as we process the regular 2015 appropriations bills.”

To gain enough Republican votes, the supplemental spending measure will be accompanied by policy changes on border security and law revisions to speed the deportation of unaccompanied minors, said Texas Representative Pete Sessions, chairman of the House Rules Committee.

Key paragraph: "Obama’s $3.7 billion request for emergency spending to deal with the border crisis covers the current fiscal year that ends Sept. 30 and the next one that starts Oct. 1."

Hmm, the article also did not mention the $600 million for firefighting... My guess is that that will be stripped out but put back in some other bill.

Because they hold the power of the purse strings, they can make it as difficult as they want to by withholding money.

What Obama should do is withdraw all the troops in Afghanistan early and reassign medial and legal units and the money that would have been used in the war to deal with this. And watch the Republicans shit their pants........

Faux News and the Republicans would scream that he was putting doctors out of work! Honest to God, they're cutting funding only so they can bitch that the President isn't doing anything about the problem. Could they be any less transparent?
