Three people are arrested in Friday night protests

Ferguson, Missouri (CNN) -- Anticipating a grand jury decision at any moment, more businesses boarded up their doors and windows and residents hunkered down in their homes on two of Ferguson's main roads.

On Saturday, the city learned it will have to wait a little more.

The grand jury convened on Friday, but did not reach a decision, federal and local law enforcement officials told CNN.

Friday came and went with no decision, and the grand jury will not reconvene until Monday, federal and local law enforcement sources told CNN.

This means that the jury is taking its time and doing its job. I see that as a good thing.

3. All pretense that they're "deliberating." That cop's gonna walk. That's my guess.

4. I also am hopeful this is a good sign. If it was an easy "no," it would have happened already. n/t

5. I don't know what the Grand Jury is doing

I hope it is their job.

If they were doing otherwise, then they missed the deadline for Friday night news dump.

7. My guess is that they want to wait until right before Thanksgiving before releasing the news.

Schools will be out for days, shops will be closed, many residents and protesters will be travelling or away, and any disruptions during the holiday by protesters will be poorly perceived by the general public.

9. That's certainly a possibity, particularly if it's "no bill."

However, they may be considering several charges, and it's possible that they won't be done this week at all.

11. That's certainly possible. I have no idea the full extent of the evidence and testimony.

The grand jury is also not a binary proposition between no indictment and a charge for murder.

It's entirely possible that the grand jury issues an indictment on lesser charges like manslaughter or negligent homicide.

12. I recall reading that Missouri has voluntary and involuntary manslaughter available.

Then there is the possibility of some sort of gun charge.

It's smart to give the grand jury all the options, IMHO.

14. I would think though they have to release the decision within a certain amount of time

after the grand jury ends. It will be interesting to see if you called it correctly on the timing of the release.

15. I imagine the timing could easily be manipulated.

The district attorney would simply need to call another minor and generally irrelevant witness, or even heartily "encourage" the grand jury to just "take their time" "in the interests of justice." All perfectly legal and would not affect whether an indictment issues.

The grand jurors are also not fools and probably are well aware of the political problems that could result from their decision, even if they are fully complying with all grand jury rules and procedures and are completely fair and honest. I even read an article recently about how additional measures are now being taken to ensure the anonymity and protection of the jurors. This could also explain and justify any delays.

Lastly, note that the grand jury does not meet every day or necessarily hear testimony or deliberate for entire days.

16. Good points

and if the grand jury is reconvening on Monday that's only two days. Had Thanksgiving not been this week it may have been harder to do. I tend to agree that it's going to be a late afternoon announcement on Wed.

17. McCulloch stated he expected a decision in November.

If one is not released by Wed, Nov. 26, due to the holiday and weekend, the next probable day that the grand jury would reconvene would not be until Mon, Dec 1.

I feel even more confident that the decision will be released Tues or Wed, and I assume the rationale is to protect the grand jurors and schoolchildren in the event of any problems.

8. They don't want to release the news on a weekend

Better to do it on a weekday, since folks have to work and all.

And it gives them more time to put up the barricades.
