About 100 brains missing from University of Texas
Source: Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The University of Texas at Austin is missing about 100 brains - about half of the specimens the university had in a collection of brains preserved in jars of formaldehyde.
One of the missing brains is believed to have belonged to clock tower sniper Charles Whitman.
"We think somebody may have taken the brains, but we don't know at all for sure," psychology Professor Tim Schallert, co-curator of the collection, told the Austin American-Statesman.
His co-curator, psychology Professor Lawrence Cormack, said, "It's entirely possible word got around among undergraduates and people started swiping them for living rooms or Halloween pranks."

(62,444 posts)And the guy had three brains for sale.
First, there was an Oklahoma brain for $10, a Kansas brain for $15, and a Texas brain for $100.
I said, "wow, that Texas brain must be pretty good."
But the shop owner said, "not really, it's just that you have to crack open so many heads to find one."

(16,926 posts)The case of the missing 100 brains in Texas has been solved, officials said on Wednesday. And, no, this is not a joke.
The brains, missing from a facility at the University of Texas in Austin have been found at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Timothy Schallert, a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the Austin school, told the Los Angeles Times.
They have the brains, Schallert said. They read a media report of the missing brains and they called to say: We got those brains!
I know the brains will be treated very well there, Schallert said.
