SNOW EXPECTED FROM MIDWEST TO NORTHEAST, THEN BITTER COLD

Source: AP

CHICAGO (AP) -- A winter weather system expected to dump more than a foot of snow in some places has begun its trek east, with a separate blast of arctic air right on its heels.

Here are some things to know about this latest round of weather and its expected impact:

EVEN COLDER TEMPERATURES COMING

The storm that has already dumped snow in parts of the upper Plains and Midwest was expected to leave as much as 5 to 7 inches in the Chicago area early Tuesday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jamie Enderlen.

As the storm moves east across the Ohio Valley and Northeast, most areas will see accumulations of between 2 to 5 inches, she said. But some locations will be hit with heavier snow bands, including lake-effect snow, and could see accumulations up to 15 inches.

But tomorrow I'll probably be babysitting because schools are planing on closing for the expected windchill of -25 to -35.

I made the mistake of moving back from Tx to NJ! UGH! Now I am thinking about a move to AlbeQuerque
- which I will have to learn how to spell, lol.

Alq. has little snow, and warmer temps, not as warm as Arizona, tho.

Do you know anything about Albequerque, IStrongBlackMan?
or anyone?
Coming from central NJ, I don't want to live anywhere where there are no Black people.
I know there are reservations somewhere in New Mexico, and I'm sure people from the Southern Hemisphere.

It is Tucson's "twin"/"Sister" city. There is a lot of city government policy cross-pollination, as the size of the metro area is about the same, and the median income is about the same ... But Tucson has a educational attainment advantage and its police force is significantly less violent. Demographically, Albuquerque is significantly more diverse with Hispanics having a 8 point edge in terms of white/Hispanic percentages (and significantly fewer Black folks).

actually the US is so segregated that even tho my town is right next door to a town with a majority Black.Hispanic population,
most every place I go, groups, events, talks and such - is all White.

it's weird to me. Probably most people don't notice, but I lived in Newark chocolate city, so it is weird to me, and not in a good way.

It's actually fairly cheap to live there, and there are some quite nice neighborhoods. It has some "big city" problems, including crime and an appallingly out-of-control police force, but it's also got a big University and more nightlife than up here.

I hope that if I get out there I can tutor, as that is my profession (now retired) and I know there is a problem of Native people having a high-drop-out rate.

altho I don't know all the factors; I'm sure there are many factors which cannot be helped by tutoring, such as how life is, the poverty and such.

SheilaT lives in Santa Fe...I visit NM a few times a year. If I had to leave Los Angeles, I'd move to ABQ I think. I like it there, and the cost of housing is sooo cheap compared to SoCal. It is not as diverse as L.A., but more than a lot of the country. I love OR too, but it's all white people! I'm white and I feel weird up there. I'm used to a very diverse city/state. I saw a few black folks last time I was in ABQ, lots of Hispanics and Native Americans. Didn't see any Asians.

Come out here to SoCal? Pasadena is nice!

The low here in NYC is 7. "Bitter" to me starts well below zero and yes I'm from the area, grew up about 60 miles away. Single-digits was a normal January night when I was a kid, but don't forget climate change is a librul myth!

And don't get me started on living in Maine, it didn't top -12 for like two weeks once. Pansies!

It is supposed to go down to 14 degrees by Thursday morning. I can deal with the extreme cold, but my water pipes can't. Last winter I had 4 busted pipes when the temperatures went below freezing. I left faucets dripping, but that didn't help. Since my furnace is out of commission, I will be running the clothes dryer all night to get warmth under my house to keep the pipes heated.
