I was hoping they either spent the rest of their worthless lives in a cold dark cell (being reminded each hour that they had killed the Muslim cop) or a nice execution and dumping at sea.

We administered Islamic rites to Bin Laden because he was an exceptionally high-profile figure. Avoiding behavior that could spark a backlash is actually a good idea.

These murderers are nowhere near Bin Laden's level of recognition, and the French can treat them as they see fit, as far as I'm concerned.

As to why we don't behave like barbarians in this matter; it's because we are not barbarians. If by our behavior we make ourselves indistinguishable from the terrorists, then we don't have a moral leg to stand on.

It's hardly Barbaric to given them "eternal" consequences when they are driven to terror by promises of paradise. It simply removes the incentives and adds a consequence to mass murder.
