........."We need to offer a new, fresh approach, one that comes from the states. The states are where we actually get things done," Walker said. "That matters. It's not enough just to give a speech."

Of course, talk of a "new, fresh approach" also highlights the 47-year-old Walker's youth compared to an older generation of prospective 2016 hopefuls, Democrat and Republican alike.

Walker singled out Hillary Clinton for criticism, calling her a "big loser" in the midterm elections. After living in the White House as first lady, serving in the Senate, and working in the Obama administration, Walker argued, Clinton has become symbolic of a political status quo that voters rejected in November.

"Everything that people dislike about Washington, she embodies it," Walker said.....

Koch: Scott, we're having trouble selling some of our paper products right now because of the down economy. Could you work in references to AngelSoft toilet paper and Brawny paper towels into your speeches and answers to press questions? You know like, "I want to wipe out unions the way AngelSoft wipes your ass after a bowel movement." You could reword it if you want, but you get the general gist.

..........It all fed into the contrast Walker is eager to strike. While President Obama's Washington, Walker says, is spending big, expanding the federal bureaucracy, and taking a "top-down" attitude to governance, Wisconsin has cut costs, shrunk the size of government, and adopted a "bottom-up" approach.

Walker's speech left little doubt that he will run for president in 2016. And it foreshadowed a messaging strategy that will portray his record in Wisconsin—sweeping conservative reforms validated by three electoral victories in four years—as a model for the Republican Party, and for the nation.

"I'm worried about my country just like I was worried about my state back in 2009," Walker said, recalling his decision to seek the governorship and his plans to get the state back on the right track.

Didn't he just get reelected in November? It seems to me when you're in your second term, you have joined the "political status quo."
