Nebraska opponents of Keystone XL pipeline reignite legal fight over state routing law

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joe Duggan

LINCOLN — Opponents of the Keystone XL pipeline filed new lawsuits Friday challenging the state law used to route the project in Nebraska.

Seven property owners in York and Holt Counties filed the lawsuits a week after the Nebraska Supreme Court did not decide the validity of the 2012 law, allowing the pipeline route to stand by default.

The new lawsuits raise the same constitutional claims raised in the original one, which took almost three years to produce a ruling from the Supreme Court. Attorneys for the landowners have said the latest lawsuits could take about two years for resolution.

The new lawsuits name as the lead defendant TransCanada, the Calgary-based corporation that wants to build the $8 billion crude oil pipeline. Mark Cooper, a spokesman for the company, said Friday’s development came as no surprise.

I just don't understand how American citizens can be forced to do what a foreign country wants that does not profit our citizens in any way. It creates only 35 jobs after it's built. All so Canada can sell it's oil over sea's and drive the price of oil up. WHY????? And rather then congress doing there jobs for American citizens spending there time working for Canada ???????

the American people. Who would pay to clean up a mess? What would it cost America for its water and croplands to be destroyed?

Voters of Nebraska are paying attention. Others are not.

Replies provide extra information.

Texas is trying to set a new state budget based on deceit switching the tax base to the poor and lower middle class, therefore removing funding for public education, Medicaid and other needed programs in order to give property owners another tax break. Many Texans are not paying attention and did not vote in Nov 2014. As you may know, Kansas state government is falling apart over its Tea Party style of governance.

Apparently the right wing court in Nebraska forgot about U.S. Sovereignty and Sovereignty of its citizens which are in the Constitution.
Jefferson even went so far as to protect the Sovereignty of its Citizens in Libya along the Barbary Coast from pirates, and this act is taught in law school
Or better yet when they took there bar exams that part of law was not covered in either the oral and practical of the test or the instructions when they were in law class
So the question needs to be asked who are they aligned with in the state to completely disregard Sovereignty and the issue, the lobbyists, the right wing republican legislature, or better yet the governor.
The governor has the ways and the means to stop this issue in its tracks, apparently he has no clue either.
