SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The last of the nation's "Freedom Train" rides to pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. has made its final trip in California after more than 30 years of operation.

The train — organized by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley — left from San Jose around 9:45 a.m. Monday and arrived in San Francisco around 11:10 a.m. People on board sang during the journey and heard stories about the civil rights movement.

The train service was among more than two dozen "Freedom Trains" launched nationwide by Coretta Scott King to commemorate the march her husband led from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama nearly 50 years ago.

Organizers said they're ending the annual train run because of declining ridership.
