Bright lines: Confederate battle flag (LTTE)

Those who support the display of the iconic ensign claim the right to honor their Southern heritage and culture. But what is the heritage they find so honorable, so worthy of continued recognition? The Confederate battle flag was born of the Civil War, fought to preserve slavery in the South. The culture they fought and died for was one of white supremacy and the oppression and subjugation of millions of blacks. I know of no other country where such an abhorrent legacy would be celebrated, let alone honored. Certainly not in post-Nazi Germany. Nor in post-apartheid South Africa. The time has long since passed that this symbol of hate be removed from all state properties. It is long past time that America unifies and recognizes the value and contributions of all its people.
