2. What exactly prompted 5 officers to witness a brutal assault and all unanimously decide to do nothing about it?

John McGraw, who assaulted this young man, clearly acted as if he knew full well the police would not arrest him for assault. Why?

After he was assaulted, deputies threw Rakeem Jones to the ground and let his attacker walk free.

Five law enforcement officers in North Carolina have been slapped with short-term suspensions for their negligent role in the assault of a black man at a recent Fayetteville Donald Trump rally.

Rakeem Jones was being escorted out of the rally by deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office when John McGraw, a Trump supporter, walked down an aisle and threw a vicious strike to the man’s face.

Instead of reprimanding and arresting McGraw, deputies actually threw Jones to the ground and allowed McGraw to walk free.

While police first claimed they didn’t see McGraw strike Jones, the investigation found that all five officers actually witnessed it and simply chose to ignore it.

They approved of the attack, and didn't see a reason to intervene, except to arrest the victims for daring to show up at the event while Black.

Combined with being disciples of authoritarianism, and what was probably fear by being surrounded by thousands of copies of the assaulter.

The base of that training is fear of statistically low ambush scenarios. They are trained to be afraid, and mask that fear with violence. It isn't in the forefront, but it constantly runs in the background like a soundtrack.

that fear as a learned sort of almost deep structure source for rationale is "where they're at".

Thanks for the clarification.

Every single one of those cops accepted that a class system exists in their community that perpetuates the crippling racial stereotypes designed to prop up the failures of white privilege. It never occurred to those cops that people have Constitutional Rights or Civil Rights, and a right to fair and equal treatment under the law... even when black.

They grew up KNOWING that as white men they were superior to the lesser classes. They were trained to see POC as criminals first, and then as potential criminals intent on ruining their community. When the old white man lashed out in hate in full view of 5 cops, he clearly had no fear of punishment whatsoever, and expected them to grant him a large measure of entitlement, righteous good will and tolerance to freely assault their prisoner.
