How Bernie Gives Hope For the Future
A self-identified socialist won 22 states.
He did FAR FAR better than any left-wing candidate has in years. Yes, he lost, but he showed very clearly that the country IS changing.
He won super-majorities of young people.
The model I have been operating under for some time, following Stirling Newberry, is that the US doesnt have a real chance at change until 20-24, because older cohorts need to die and younger cohorts need to replace them.

(1,446 posts)...that, baring some unfortunate mishap or illness, I will live to see Bernie's revolution take hold in this country...and true economic and social justice will hold sway over the land.
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free...

(2,412 posts)Amen. I am 70 and I have waited 50 years for something like this to take root in our country. I have given donations all along and continue to do so. He is the real deal and my best hope for a better America. I feel fortunate to be alive now and able to donate.
I went to Sanders headquarters the night of the victory here in Oregon and I danced with all the young people and brought sparkling wine. It was the best night of my life to see their young faces and know that the future is secure and the light of my ideals will never go out.

(1,446 posts)I gotta believe we'll get there - 'cause I just can't let myself believe there are THAT many myopic, self-centered people in this country...it's just too depressing.

(10,495 posts)The revolution will continue to grow, especially with either of the two Presidential candidates in the WH. They will provide more fuel to the political revolution by more favoritism to corporations and the wealthy.

(26,620 posts)Candidates arguing about which one is more liberal; haven't seen that for a while. Us old liberals are still here and still alive, and a whole new crop of new ones has just emerged. Nothing wrong with this at all as our issues continue to be addressed and not dismissed. No matter what, I'm encouraged by a whole new generation of activists.

They can't get out and they know it, but they still have enough reach to lash out and take a fair number of us down with them.
