Alicia Machado, former Ms. Universe, joins forces with anti-Trump immigration advocacy groups.

Former Ms. Universe, Alicia Machado, has hit the press circuit to speak out against Donald Trump, recalling his humiliating treatment of her after she won the pageant in 1996.

As reported in the Washington Post, Machado spoke out to other Latinos about the importance of unity in the face of Donald Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric during a press conference held Wednesday.

Machado said:

‘I hope my testimonial will help EVERYONE to make a good decision in november.”

The Venezuelan model and actress has recently passed her citizenship exam, just in time to vote in the 2016 election. She had joined two immigrant advocacy groups, People for the American Way and Casa in Action, to encourage other immigrants to seek citizenship and register to vote against Trump in the upcoming election. Machado has also joined forces with civil rights leader, Delores Huerta, to speak out against the Republican nominee. Citizenship applications have soared this year, compared to previous years, with nearly a quarter-million applications filed in the first quarter of 2016.

Machado has recently described Donald Trump’s abusive behavior toward her after her win in 1996, when Trump was owner of the pageant and he and his then-wife, Marla Maples, were the hosts.

In an interview with the Latin Times, Machado said:

He would DISCRIMINATE me constantly. He would call me “Miss Housekeeping,” that was the nickname he liked to use to make fun of me in front of his friends, and he would laugh.’
