Paul Ryan, So Handsome, So Sad
This is one of my favorite story headlines of the year

"The energy that Donald Trump offered tonight is why the enthusiasm is on our side," Ryan offered in a statement that went out shortly before midnight. "The American people are ready for solutions, and Donald Trump offers a chance to move in a new direction."
This is Paul Ryan's life now. This is who he is.
In the four months since he formally endorsed his party's nominee for president, Ryan the esteemed speaker of the House, the sterling guardian of conservatism, the intellectual leader of the Republican Party has been reduced to a miserable Trump flunky sheepishly counting down the hours until the election is over. Each day he spends tethered to the Donald seems to bring some fresh humiliation; each role he inhabits in the entourage proves more undignified than the last. Adviser, apologist, hype man, scold none brings redemption, or even reprieve. And so he trudges on toward November, a stench of sadness clinging to him as he goes.

(2,795 posts)He knows Trump will do whatever he is told to do. Trump, if elected would simply be a figure head. I think they all know Pence, who is the kind of conservative the all wanted anyway, will be doing the work of president and Trump will be out "making America Great again". So if he has to suck up, lie and become a pathetic shill for Trump, he will. Because he will finally get what he wants with his budget and cuts and repeal of Obamacare.

(10,252 posts)He could have followed the example of Lindsay Graham and from the git-go called Trump "unAmerican." Ryan, Mr Ethics and Integrity, is a cowardly scairdey cat, afraid of the T-party Freedom caucus. Afraid they might have a temper tantrum and give him mucho grief over his budget bill. Well guess what? They will anyway, unless it cuts all funding to Planned Parenthood, cripples Consumer Protection, votes for the millionth time to outlaw Obamacare, severely cuts education, EPA, etc etc. Nope, Ryan deserves every crocodile tear he sheds, when his party takes a drubbing come Nov. If the GOP retains the House, I hope T-Party makes Ryan lose the gavel. And I hope that Nancy Pelosi slowly enjoys her morning expresso as she watches the House GOP commit hari-kari.

(3,064 posts)Looks like he's screwed by his craven cowardice in not repudiating Trump.
He'll probably have no trouble in being re elected in his House district but he should be getting the heave ho as Speaker of the House before too long.
And the real prize he wants, the 2020 Republican presidential nomination? Not gonna happen.
No sympathy whatsoever for the Ayn Rand loving, chickenshit weasel dick. Stew in it, you asshole. Putting your political career ahead of the good of the country, looks like it's become the Republican way.

I worry that Ryan will be ready to run for President in 2000. He is attractive and well spoken and has a reputation for being a nice guy - even if his ideas spell death to most of us.
