Madonna and Marilyn Minter Discuss Art and Protest
At Billboard Magazines Women in Music event last month, Madonna lamented the defeat of Hillary Clinton. But on Thursday night at a panel discussion with the artist Marilyn Minter at the Brooklyn Museum, she offered another perspective on Donald J. Trumps election victory: She said it had an upside, because it inspired Americans to wake up and stop taking their freedoms for granted.
We dont really have a choice, she said, but to stand up and take action. We hit the wall.
Madonna was speaking on the eve of Mr. Trumps inauguration before a packed auditorium of art-world luminaries, including the photographer Laurie Simmons, the dealer Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, Paper Magazines Kim Hastreiter and Thomas P. Campbell, the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Ms. Minter, who currently has a retrospective at the museum, agreed: We have to fight back, she said. Dont accept anything he does.
