In A Democracy, No One Should Ever Question This Basic RightLast edited Sun Jun 25, 2017, 04:59 PM - Edit history (1)
It’s time to restore full power to the Voting Rights Act
Today marks the fourth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder, a devastating ruling that immobilized a part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) that was one of the most effective tools for protecting voters and strengthening our political process. As a result, far too many state and local jurisdictions have unabashedly considered and passed racially discriminatory voting laws; wasted millions of dollars defending them; and cost millions of disproportionately black and Latino Americans their most basic right in our democracy: The right to vote. Jeff Sessions is Poised to Finish It Off. Advocates consider how much worse it can get. 3. Democratic elected officials need to fight for our vote and our right to vote
this election is the first one they lost that I can remember party leaders talking long and loud about rigging.
I wonder why they didn't care that much when Russia wasn't in the equation. |
