This is why Florida Democrats are losers

Scott Maxwell
August 4, 2017

Right now, there’s a flurry of political activity in western Orange County.

With a special legislative election afoot, four Republicans are running vigorous campaigns, debating conservative ideas and collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign cash in House District 44, which envelops Disney, Winter Garden, Dr. Phillips and west Orlando.

So, the Republicans are all in.

One the other side of the aisle is a single Democratic candidate without much name ID, support or money. As of his last report, he had raised $3,131 … with most of that coming from the candidate’s own pocket.

All this in a district that strongly supported Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump just nine months ago — about 28,000 votes to 22,000.

This, my friends, is why Democrats are chronic losers in this state … because they don’t compete.

state representative as a Dem a few years back.

First he was told he would have to prove his worth as a candidate by raising his own funds. Then he was told that the party was ceding that district to the Republican candidate, so he might as well not bother.

So, yeah, not gonna be competitive without major changes, it would seem.

Because we recruited someone to run the election that came from Florida. I cannot mention her name because I already got hides for saying it, so I will simply refer to her as "she that got fired in 2016 for screwing up".

they have billionaire backers who have the donation tap open all of the time, and many of the candidates are very rich. Dems just don't have that kind of money. I'm not sure what the answer is.

and had to put a ton in herself. No Dems denied this fact either. I forget where and who I heard it from (maybe Perez or Pelosi) but they are tying to help change that now. Money is a HUGE problem for Dems. How can we expect to run good candidates and campaigns without money? We can't. The grassroots efforts are always running an uphill battle under these circumstances.

Over 25% of my income goes towards paying for my ACA bills (and that is with subsidies) not including my meds and other out of pocket health expenses. I donate very small sums but am strapped so I volunteer and resist as much as I can but always feel guilty that it isn't enough. It is so frustrating on a personal level.

the GOP as well as getting good candidates and eliminate the electoral college and use the popular vote instead. The question is how room get big $ out of it when the GOP is in charge? It's like putting the fox in charge of guarding the hen house.
