By Trapper Byrne

A Bay Area venture capitalist who thinks California’s political system is dysfunctional says he’s collected enough signatures to put a measure on the November ballot to split the state in three.

Tim Draper says he’ll submit more than 600,000 signatures to the secretary of state next week for a measure that would divide the state into what he’s tentatively labeled NorCal, SoCal and Cal, which would include the Central Coast and the Los Angeles Basin. The Bay Area would be in NorCal.

A total of 366,000 valid signatures would be needed to put the idea before voters.
If the new measure does qualify and voters go for it, Congress would still have to ratify the split.

I don't believe you can alter or create states from a plebiscite vote- must go through congress.

And this bonehead comes up with this shit. He needs to put his energy into getting real senatorial representation for a state with 40 million people.

Create the consoIidated states of DAKOTA, WYOIDATANA, RHODEVERHAMPSHIRE, CAROLINA, ALASIPPI, and UTAHVADA.

Let's attach northern Florida to Georgia (sorry Georgia), and Puerto Rico and USVI to Florida. Marianas Islands and should be annexed to Hawaii or liberated. Alaska can be merged with Washington State. DC should be granted statehood.

That was fun....

Why do the rest of us have to pay for his effort to gerrymander an entire state? The GOP did this when Gray Davis was governor. Using the historically low turn out of midterm elections, the Repugs kicked out Davis, who had been elected by millions of voters, and replaced him with a person whose vote total was in the hundreds of thousands. Daryl Issa, who had organized the effort with the intention of becoming the next governor, was thwarted when Arnold Schwarzenegger won the governorship.

Once again the Repugs denied the will of the majority of voters who had elected Davis as governor, just like they did with Al Gore and Hillary Clinton.
