The recent mass shootings in the US all have one thing in common: misogyny

The massacre at Santa Fe high school last week that left 10 people dead - most of them students seems to have something in common with so many other mass shootings that happen in the US: misogyny. The shooter, one victims mother claims, targeted her daughter as the first victim because she rejected his continued harassing advances.
How many more tragedies have to happen before we recognize that misogyny kills? The longer we ignore the toxic masculinity that underlies so many of these crimes, the more violence were enabling.
Sadie Rodriguez told the LA Times that her daughter Shana Fisher had four months of problems from the Santa Fe shooter.
He kept making advances on her and she repeatedly told him no. A week before the shooting, she says, her daughter stood up to the shooter and embarrassed him in class.

(1,002 posts)is another toxic white male source of misogyny. Now they're emboldened to respond violently to girls and women who spurn their advances -- pathetic.

(33,327 posts)so illustrative of the knee-jerk emotional reaction to propels men to kill women.
the kid was named Allen Ivanov. his GF Anna Bui broke up with him, went off to college. she came back for a party, which he attacked. he killed her and 2 other attendees. now he'll sit in jail for the rest of his life.
he couldn't buy a handgun (21 to purchase in WA), but he bought an AR-15, passed the background check, waited 3 days, and read the instructions in his car outside the party.
SOME young men are going to handle rejection poorly, even pathologically. but giving them access to firearms is always going to make their reaction worse.
guns make everything worse. the militia needs organization.

(147 posts)The older ones vote and make sure they vote against women no matter what the politics are. There is something wrong with them, including the women who feel the same way. Can't put my finger on it, but there is something there.

(30,736 posts)I wonder if this girl's family notified the school of his harassment. Did they notify the police? Sometimes this helps, even if there is little the authorities can do. Sometimes it helps because the families of the harasser become involved, or others who may provide help and counseling to those doing the harassing.
I know this is about misogyny. But maybe there are other ways to deal with young men who do this. Anything that would help!
