President Trump was forced to abandon his decision to host next years Group of Seven summit at his private golf club after it became clear the move had alienated Republicans and swiftly become part of the impeachment inquiry that threatens his presidency.
In a round of phone calls with conservative allies this weekend, Trump was told Republicans are struggling to defend him on so many fronts, according to an administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters.
Democrats, meanwhile, continued to blast Trump for awarding the massive government contract to his own company and said they might add the alleged emoluments violation to the articles of impeachment they are preparing.
The White House has been struggling to explain Trumps G-7 decision since it was announced Thursday. The presidents opponents quickly seized on it as another example of Trump abusing his office for personal gain. Even many Republicans seemed reluctant to offer political cover.

Do you hear nothing? Do you learn nothing? It's virtually talking to an 8 yr old!
No .. where the marker moved on this, was people on the other side of the aisle telling him they're tired of his Sh*t! And I kind of wonder if there wasn't fairly explicit [it would have to be explicit] language and ultimatums involved?

(25,934 posts)He's either the most obtuse MFer on the face of the earth or he's like a bear that continues to rip apart a tree to get at the honey inside despite getting stung repeatedly. I'm inclined toward the latter, but he's still obtuse as hell.

(9,426 posts)would have stopped defending this supremely unqualified clown long ago. The gop wanted tax breaks for their wealthy donors and got them. Now they want Medicare, SS and other programs destroyed. tRump is seriously jeopardizing their plans, by breaking laws left right and center, causing them to have to try to defend him. Too little, too late. He has shown the entire world what a complete disaster his administration is. The republicans are totally out of their league trying to rule this country. It will take a strong democratic president to right this ship of state. Corruption runs rampant in the gop. There is not a single member of their party that I have respect for. All of them fold like cheap suits when Don the Con does something else unlawful. They rush to try to make everything "normal" when they know it is not. A democratic president would have been impeached long ago for doing what this useless blob is doing, and they know it. They do not represent anyone but themselves, and their rich donors.
