Joe Biden campaigners were forced to cancel an event in Texas on Friday as tensions flared in the key battleground state ahead of election day.

Local Democrats said they were forced to pull the plug on a gathering scheduled to take place in Pflugerville – a small city about 17 miles north of Austin – due to "security reasons".

It came as vice-presidential candidate, senator Kamala Harris, completed a whistle-stop three-city tour of the Lone Star state in a last-minute bid for votes.

Traditionally a Republican stronghold, the battle for Texas's 38 electoral college votes is likely to go down to the wire.

President Trump has a slight lead in the state, according to FiveThirtyEight's latest poll update. But that advantage is within the margin of error and a Biden win in Texas could be key to his path to the White House.

cops being called. I mean, just cancel and go on with life? Call the damn cops, demand protection and do what they need to do.

Other reports indicated that they did little and were heavily outnumbered by the Trump goons.

fearful right now. I found out my niece now got admitted into hospital because of covid she has been battling at home, and I am so so so angry. I am having to try to reach family to let them know, like her father. I hate this America where ugly wins.

the bus to its destination. So, not sure what the reality is. KXAN is usually pretty solid, so it's probably accurate.

Agree with you on our ugly America. The fact that these clowns can pull these stunts is disturbing. Road rage is a thing and people get prosecuted for it. Needs to happen here if reports of the harassment are anywhere near accurate.

"Biden event" presumes that Biden was involved or present. He was not, nor was Harris. The event included local politicians and was intended to motivate voters at polling places. The article correctly makes the distinction, but the headline is misleading.
