Zuckerberg defends not suspending ex-Trump aide Bannon from Facebook: recording

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-facebook/zuckerberg-says-bannon-has-not-violated-enough-policies-for-suspension-recording-idUSKBN27S35P

Facebook FB.O Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg told an all-staff meeting on Thursday that former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon had not violated enough of the company's policies to justify his suspension when he urged the beheading of two senior U.S. officials, according to a recording heard by Reuters.

Zuckerberg acknowledged criticism of Facebook by President-elect Joe Biden but said the company shared some of the Biden team’s same concerns about social media. He urged employees not to jump to conclusions about how the new administration might approach regulation of social media companies.

Bannon suggested in a video posted on Nov. 5 that FBI Director Christopher Wray and government infectious diseases expert Anthony Fauci should be beheaded, saying they had been disloyal to U.S. President Donald Trump, who last week lost his re-election bid to Biden.

“I’d put the heads on pikes. Right. I’d put them at the two corners of the White House as a warning to federal bureaucrats. You either get with the program or you are gone,” Bannon said in the video.

I was horrified to read a story once about some sleazy Facebook employee trying to lure physicians into some medical data sharing thing.

Can you imagine if Facebook data scientists were to get access to data on say addiction or mental health issues? These are not ethical people. Besides they would probably just make up shit about mental health/addiction etc. using bogus metrics if it suited them.

And I hope the HHS ORI/NIMH/NIDA/ the NIH generally has the sense to stay clear of Facebook, Google, the other corporate interests and the national security state (not exactly very forward thinking people). No scientist who has ever worked on publically funded science can reject the ORI. But the key to voluntary data sharing etc is not having ties to for-profit entities or anything too police statey or creepy.

You seriously cannot have respectable institutions behaving like pirates, hackers etc. It confuses people. Maybe that is cool inside the military industrial complex but it is not generally cool. They need stricter regulations around data sharing.

It's the billionaire club thing; you either play their game or you will be cast aside and forced to squander with commoners.
