President Lyndon Baines Johnson, who grew up in the South and understood the politics of racism
from the inside, saw it in part as a ploy to divide and conquer.
'President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."' https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/lbj-convince-the-lowest-white-man/ ((Read the whole article; lots to learn. We need to learn a few lessons about breaking the back of repug propaganists, as it's happening now, JUST happened (to cause us to lose House seats and fail to gain Senate seats.) )) https://www.democraticunderground.com/100214556594

1. This is absolutely true..
i’ve seen it firsthand throughout my life.
It also plays into the confirmation bias in propaganda news that racists feed off of. |

3. The Slavers assembled the southern white underclass
Out of readily available parts! Why do you think that English convicts were "transported" to Georgia? Need slavedrivers, don'tcha?

4. It's always 'logical,' isn't it, not borne of meanness,
but it's lasted.

5. It's logical if you are as devoted to cruelty as a Slaver!
It's a feature of "noble birth" - a certain amount of cruelty is expected, to "do what needs to be done"

6. For all his hardball politics and Texas country manners, LBJ was a good man and an excellent
Democrat.

8. I have heard stories about LBJ. He apparently had a huge range in Texas and he loved to drive
around his ranch drinking beer. He was a dandy. No doubt about it.
