My ltte in the Kansas City Star
When Congress passed its new coronavirus relief bill, sending it to President Joe Biden for his signature, it had been debated and amended several times. It passed the House on a near party-line vote of 219-212 219 Democratic representatives versus 210 Republican and two Democratic representatives. Not one Republican in the House voted for passage.
In the Senate, it was amended and approved on a party-line vote of 50-49. GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska was absent. Not one Republican in the Senate voted for passage.
Some Americans who get their tax refunds via direct deposit are already receiving their stimulus checks. Others will receive their relief by mail or debit cards in the near future.
As everyone spends their stimulus money whether it is repairing what has broken, replacing what cannot be fixed, assisting their children, paying their debts or donating to those less fortunate remember this: Not one Republican wanted any of those things for you or your family.
Not one Republican wanted your cities or counties or states to have any assistance to climb out of the hole of isolation, job loss, taxes not paid and lives not lived.
Not one.

You may spur some to do their own research on whether their reps are on their side.

(10,429 posts)Last year the whole NW Missouri area seemed to have the highest concentration of MF45 signs and flags. Even worse that Kansas, although that's probably only because they have so many abortion signs there isn't as much room for anything else.
That must have been a real eye-opener, finding out how many people around you are MAGAts.

There are many good peeps out here with me and I know them all ...
I know their family trees, their lives, their hopes and their dreams ...
I also know their lack of education, their small mindedness, their awful preachers and their dreadful belief systems ...

(6,172 posts)There were probably as many Republicans hit hard by the pandemic as there were Democrats.
Why don't Republican legislators understand this? They're so invested in preventing the Democrats from having any successes that they are willing to punish their own supporters.
I hope the people remember this, along with the planned massive voter suppression, when the next election comes due.
There's a lot of Republican legislators that don't deserve to keep their jobs.

(31,384 posts)from 1988-94 so I'm familiar with the political leanings of NW Missouri. It was so red then that I wasn't surprised to see in 2016 that The News Press Gazette was one of only a handful of newspapers in the entire country to endorse Trump.
Great letter!
