An amazing revelation about the GOP's willful blindness on Donald Trump

Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large

When I read these lines in a Washington Post profile of Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney over the weekend, I gasped:

"When staff from the National Republican Congressional Committee rose to explain the party's latest polling in core battleground districts [at an April retreat], they left out a key finding about Trump's weakness, declining to divulge the information even when directly questioned about Trump's support by a member of Congress, according to two people familiar with what transpired. ... Trump's unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones in the core districts, according to the full polling results, which were later obtained by The Washington Post."

Go back and read that. And consider what it makes clear.

It's this: The campaign officials charged with helping Republicans win back their majority in 2022 are keeping deeply relevant information about former President Donald Trump's negative impact from GOPers running in key seats.

That is, quite literally, the definition of political malpractice. And, at least according to the Post, it's not the first time it's happened.

It's hard to get my hopes up though since Trump seems to be able to consistently defy all logical expectations.

all the voter suppression and Russian interference they can get in order for them to steal another election, and they know it. They just may do it, too. I put nothing past them. Nothing at all.

During the first effort to impeach Trump it was made clear that he was trying to make Hunter Biden look bad because his pollsters were telling him that Joe Biden was the one who could beat him in an election. And only Joe. That made him willing to commit impeachable acts in an effort to eliminate Joe Biden from the deep bench of Democrats ready willing and able to run against him in 2020. So if they’re concluding now that Trump is running from a defecit position, I’m ready to believe it. That’s why they’re paid well.

subsidiary of the Kremlin. Putin and the republican party so badly want Trump back in the White House they'll go to any length, any falsehood, to achieve that aim. Republicans hate democracy so much they'll partner with the most vile, blood thirsty autocrat on the planet to bring a fascist government to the United States and keep it there.
Lies of commission or omission mean nothing to them at this point. All they want to do is get the biggest liar in the world back in the White House. He'll do the rest.

I can't think of another reason. Anyone have a different theory?

What I do know is that any dissension, misinformation, or mistrust in their upper circles is a good look for democracy.

In spite of the overall unfavorables, he's still bringing in big money? Beyond kissing up to not incur his wrath, I can't think of any other explanation. But you can only milk that turnip for so long...and that cash cow sure as heck ain't ever share that wealth.
