Just ran across psychologist Julie Hotard's writings.
She is alarmed at how successful right wing propaganda is, although not surprised. She calls for Democrats to do counter-propaganda to counter GOP talking point strategies:

This article is a few months old, but some of her others also suggest ways to turn things around and for Dems to win. She makes good points and gives contact info for folks to contact for help.
We are consistently losing the messaging battle, because we have long refused to use talking points. But it works, and is key to GOP success and their talking points are untruthful. Imagine it ensuring that the truth gets out and is repeated enough to stick.

(51,004 posts)messages on twitter and facebook? Where are our think tanks that take good ideas for messaging, and amplify them? Where is the organized harrying of news organizations demanding the end of "both siderism" in reporting?
The insistence that "we don't do bumper sticker messaging" A) makes it clear you didn't read the article and B) is hubris that will help usher in the end of our Democracy.
Equally unhelpful is the comment I see often in this conversation: "They have radio. We don't. We can't fight their messaging."
Hotard is right. This can be done. We neglect to do this at our own peril.

Americans are awash in the RW media complexs anti-democracy propaganda esp since MSM repeats it. Constant repetition from many sources works. Best way to beat it? Counter-propaganda directed at the same audience.
In past experience with the GOP using their talking points, the news orgs usually include quoting the daily talking points in their coverage, bypassing the unequal ownership issue.
Social media sorts users quickly so soon they only see content similar to what they already like. But many follow and like news sources so content may get through the filter bubble.
Debunking is not the strategy relied on by our military when countering propaganda. That tells me its not very effective compared to counter-propaganda.
Julie Hotard can be read on uptime.medium.com or on Twitter @upine. She recommends two organizations doing that work to follow on Twitter and amplify: @anotheracronym and @RealityTeam11.
