Democrats need to get with the times
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2022/05/time-for-democrats-to-get-with-times.htmlIt's no longer politics as usual. We can't keep doing the same thing, hoping to turn people out to vote and that they will listen to the issues and we'll keep a majority. It is time to turn the tables, throw a fit and claim back territory that has been given up which, if the minority keeps it, will lead to the loss of our democracy.
Democrats have to start taking the conservative social agenda seriously. We're not talking about a fringe of extremists. We just had an eighteen year old white supremacist plan and conduct a mass shooting in a supermarket in a predominantly black neighborhood three hours from his home because he believes white people are being "replaced" by black people, instigated by the Jews, for their own purposes. And a significant percentage of those who self identify as Republicans, 50% of them, claim they believe what he stated in his "manifesto." We can't be policy wonks, arguing the lack of virtue or idiocy of such an idea. We have to use the tools we have at hand to take any kind of political power out of the hands of people like that.
When was the last time you went to a protest at a Trump rally?

(3,850 posts)and I left the main subject paragraph out. I should know better.
"Where are the local candidates for school boards, county election boards, city councils, and county boards of supervisors? Why are we letting Republicans have positions that have the potential to nullify votes and overturn elections that they have trouble winning? This has become their strategy, along with gerrymandering, making false claims of election "fraud" and demanding that partisan nut jobs be allowed to conduct audits and mess with vote counting machines."

(41,131 posts)on the state level, in Statehouses, on placement on school boards, running for city council and influencing election officials. Not to mention active involvement in gerrymandering and obstructing elections.
All of this because as Ohio Democrat David Pepper says, what goes on in the states is much less noticed than affairs at the national level. And the dying off of local newspapers is also a factor.
In his new book, "Laboratories of Democracy," Pepper covers this movement. I'll try to find one of his recent book talks which have been posted here and repost one.
- 'The Wealthy & The GOP Are Creating A Path To Autocracy Through Statehouses.' David Pepper.
The Wealthy Are Creating Labs of Autocracy - Conversations With Great Minds - David Pepper. Nov 30, 2021. Democracy has a big problem isn't in Congress... it is in YOUR state capitol. David Pepper joins Thom Hartmann to discuss the laboratories of Autocracy the rich and the GOP are creating in your state capitol.

(3,850 posts)Also showing up at school board meetings prepared with an agenda and information to counter the extremist lies. Showing up at city council meetings to do the same. Run for positions like that, to keep shrill conservatives out. Get on an election board, volunteer to count votes or operate polling locations and then scream bloody murder if a conservative gets out of line. Make sure polling and counting locations are packed with observers.
And vote in the midterms.

(3,850 posts)so go to the MSNBC link if you want to see. Tim Ryan has a great ad up directly confronting the social issue nutsery of JD Vance by using some of the most extreme conspiracy theory quotes from Marjorie Taylor Greene, and playing, over and over, Vance's statement of support for her. That's what we need to see nationwide.
And as always, Reverend Al hits the nail on the head when it comes to Democrats and enthusiasm for voting in the mid-terms.
If the Magats win, the whole country is gone.
