Via a FOIA request, the following recently obtained e-mail exchanges between Romney’s campaign headquarters and their PR firm are a real eye-opener:
PR: We’re pretty fired up about this lede: “Mitt Romney is a successful businessman who knows how to create jobs for the middle class, and move existing companies into a profitable position.”
Reply from HQ: Bain Capital story is all over the media. Ix-nay on this.
PR: How about: “Mitt Romney understands how important jobs are to American workers, and sympathizes with those who lose their employment.”
Reply from HQ: “I like being able to fire people” quote all over the news today. New tack needed – STAT!
