They had the power and resources to do an awful lot. The evidence suggests that they were more interested in the political advantage they could gain rather than the "Christian" aspects of the issue.

If the old saying is true, that your checkbook reflects your priorities, then that's quite telling. The amount of resources that goes into the entities and social service agencies belonging to religious institutions, mainly the Catholic church and various Protestant churches, that have the capacity to deal with issues touching abortion is a fraction of what the same people spend on the debt load of the loans on the church buildings where they meet each Sunday. So it's easier and cheaper to get the government to do the work.

And that says an awful lot.

the elected republicans purposely did nothing to stop abortion access for decades because it was driving their base to the polls. But then, the evangelicals and xian nationalists started becoming a much larger and louder portion of their crazy base, along with the change in SCOTUS allowing them to throw out all sort of unconstitutional new laws...and now, here we are.

2. They were picketing abortion centers and mocking women who visited and they burned

a few down, I remember them killing a few doctors. They have never been what I would describe as "Christian". It is a front for criminals. I remember growing up with the saying if someone has to keep telling you they are Christian, never turn your back to them.
