The University of Alabama is the latest public college system to do away with its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs, following the passage of a new law barring public institutions in the state from pushing “divisive concepts” that encourage discrimination based on traits like race or sex.

UA campuses in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Huntsville all pulled the plug on their respective DEI programs on Tuesday to ensure compliance with the law, which also requires public universities in the state to designate bathrooms based solely on biological sex.........................

............Under Senate Bill 129 — signed into law by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and taking effect Oct. 1 — certain government entities and public institutions are forbidden from implementing any form of DEI programming or operating any offices under its banner.

The law prohibits “the promotion, endorsement and affirmation” of what it calls “divisive concepts” in public settings, as well as outlines penalties for violations......................

At some point we will realize the absurdity of our ways, that we are only hurting ourselves with this ignorance and perpetual racism. ☮

From UA's own core values:

The University of Alabama is committed to undergraduate education that produces socially-conscious, ethical and well-rounded leaders who are grounded in their subject matter and capable of controlling their own destinies.

Of course, they WANT diversity for football and basketball teams.

I am sure they are complying with state laws against being civilized human beings, which red states love. I work at a red state university and people know it is going to happen here, and at every other public university in the state, and that nothing can be done to stop it and educated people know that this is hateful policy.

That being said, whatever the athletics programs want, they are going to get. Republicans like nothing better than simply using people for their own satisfaction.

for their services the politics are probably secondary to most of them. Also, where they go can mean a more likely professional career later. Not to say the politics don’t matter but the athletes (particularly in major sports) are looking after short and long term income opportunities as well as what is taking place in their state governments.
