(edited to put DailyKOS in there which I missed (!?). this changes DU to no. 12. very sorry for error.)....
(note I think these rankings are updated continuously and can change at any time)

as you can see Conservative/Paranoia sites are well represented in the list above. But maybe as more people gravitate tothe web we'll see sites frequented by rational people gain in ranking (we can only hope).

2. Note: IF DUers would go to Google and set up their own FREE web-site (no html knowledge required)

and link into DU articles/posts that would increase those posts weighting according to the Google search algorithm and raise those posts in a Google search - links list. This would increase DU's profile and lead to more hits on articles.

.... resulting in DU being more influential.

I think Skinner would be pleased.

5. InfoWars is #7 ... ?? You've got to be kidding me.

That site is so one-dimensional I can't believe it's even
on the list at all.

I seriously question the accuracy or motives of the source,
as in whoever "ranked" these sites.

Re InfoWars ranking, I agree, it's depressing. That should shed some light on how 48% of population could vote for Rmoney.

he's just a kind of generic nut-job, who hates the Bilderbergers

He strikes me as a closet Libertarian, or maybe he's out of the
closet for all I know, but damn; it is sad how he can draw more
hits than DU.

Obviously, this automatic monitoring (Alexa) only counts warm
bodies, and doesn't reflect the QUALITY of the people behind the
keyboards, huh?

indicator of how much paranoic thinking is going on out there. This would be an indication of how successful Rmoney's (or the entire GOP's) demogoguery would be at whipping up suckers.

11. Frankly, Alexa categorization of DU seems out of whack. I searched for sites by category:
Fri Nov 9, 2012, 05:28 PM
Nov 2012

...."society, politics, chats and forums"... and it didn't even list DU but listed many with far lower ranking!!

http://www.alexa.com/topsites/category;0/Top/Society/Politics/Chats_and_Forums

"Debate Politics" leads the list and it has a ranking of 35673!!!

NOte to Skinner: Alexa says: "Did you know? You can enhance your Site Listing by displaying your Visitors and Pageviews. Find out how!"

this should lead to higher ad rates for DU!

6. I can't see where your list comes from

but it doesn't include DailyKos, which is, according to Alexa, 382 of all sites in the US
http://www.alexa.com/search?q=dailykos.com&r=home_home&p=bigtop

The list at the Alexa page you give goes down to 25, and doesn't include Democratic Underground. But that would seem to be because it hasn't marked DU as 'politics' - it does have an international ranking better than FR (at #11) (though FR beats it in the US, just), and lewrockwell at #12.

listed at the link provided. Daily KOS is now in there in its rightful place. No explanation for my error.
I had to search for Democaticunderground.com separately though. It was not included in the list at link provided. (Don't know why)

note these rankings are probably continuously updated as when you checked DailyKOS it was ranked 382. A minute ago when I looked it was 381. The maintenance of these figures in no doubt automated so they are being updated as we speak (or write).
